Dr. Laura Ani is a distinguished legal practitioner and senior research scholar at the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS). With a robust specialization in Corporate Governance, International Humanitarian Law, Competition Law, and Energy and Natural Resources Law, Dr. Ani’s expertise is both vast and deep.
In her professional capacity, Dr. Ani serves as Vice Chair of the Mining Law and Policy Committee within the Section of Business under the auspices of the Nigerian Bar Association. She is also an active member of the International Bar Association, Women in Mining Association Nigeria (WIMIN), Nigerian Association of Law Teachers (NALT), National Association of International Humanitarian Law Teachers, the Mining Thematic Group under the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), and the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators Nigeria (ICSAN).
Dr. Ani’s research is predominantly focused on the governance frameworks within the hydrocarbon and solid minerals sectors, emphasizing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) issues. Her advocacy for women’s inclusion in the mining sector is evident through her involvement in numerous capacity-building initiatives and research projects. Her academic credentials include an LLM specializing in International Commercial Law from London Metropolitan University, a Ph.D. in Natural Resource Governance from Obafemi Awolowo University, and a certification in research methods from the London School of Economics. Dr. Ani has made significant contributions to legal scholarship, with over 25 peer-reviewed articles and six co-edited books. Notably, she co-edited the first comprehensive book on competition law in Nigeria in 2012. Additionally, she has served as the editorial assistant for the Nigerian Current Law Review Journal, a premier legal journal published by NIALS.
